Erik Young M.D. Chairman / Co-Founder
Erik Young oversees the strategic planning and expansion of Akooba, Inc. He enjoyed successful careers in medicine and real estate development before co-founding Akooba. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland College Park and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He and his wife Joyce are proud to support academic and athletic programs at the University of Maryland and the Stevens Institute of Technology.
Thomas Scholl Board Member
Thomas Scholl is a successful investor and entrepreneur who has held direct roles in over 40 start-up with positions including founder, chairman, CEO, board member and investor. Tom began his career as a systems programmer for the Central Intelligence Agency. He would become senior vice president of engineering at Hughes Network Systems, which has since become a subsidiary of EchoStar. In 1990, Tom would found Telogy Networks, a leading company in providing software products and reference designs for major technology companies. Motorola purchased Telogy’s digital mobile handset design business in 1998, followed shortly by the acquisition of Telogy by Texas Instruments. Tom cofounded and was a chairman for Cognio, which was acquired by Cisco in 2007. Tom became a venture partner at Novak Biddle Venture Partners, where he identified and developed companies from their early stages through their successful exit. He has sat on the boards of Paratek, Command Information, Woodwind Communications, Vubiquity, Princeton Oprtonics, and Fiberzone. Tom has also served as director of Torrent Networking, Integrated Telecom, NEC’s eLuminant and Siemen’s Optisphere.
